Alright weather update here in MN, we went from 15 inches of snow to 60 degrees in one week!! I can't say spring has sprung yet but it is getting there. Today is the first day in 7 months that I am not wearing tights, I don't know how to feel.
A big focus this week has been on the Book of Mormon. Yes I am a missionary and yes we always focus on the Book of Mormon. BUT we especially did this week.
It all started last week at zone conference when President challenged us all to refocus on the Book of Mormon. He gave us a few specifics and challenged us to get to work. So we did. I think it did more for me than any of our investigators. Maybe it was just becuse it was on the forefront of our minds or maybe we saw more miracles because of our focus on the book, who knows but here are some things we saw this week.
Martha
Sometimes the English missionaries go crazy and send us the address of every hispanic they see. We like it though because there are definitely days when we feel like they are hidimg from us. Martha was a referral from other missionaries and so we stopped by of course. She said she was busy cooking so we asked if their was a day we could come back, she went on to tell us that she actually isn't super interested. This isn't an unusual occurance but when we left, we felt like we should've given her a copy of the Book of Mormon. So about 30 minutes later we found ourselves knocking in her door once again. Her son answered this time and said she was eating but we gave him a Book with a few favorite scriptures marked for her. Now she has a book in her posession that could change her life, will she be willing to read it?
Fabiola
I can't hide my love for Fabiola. She is incredible. This week at our lesson we read a few scriptures in the Book of Mormon about the Atonement of Christ. Hna Hudman and I both bore our testimonies of Christ and how we have come to know Him through reading in the Book of Mormon. We then asked if she had any thoughts she wants to share and she goes on to bear her own testimony of Christ and how ahe has learned so many things she never knew about Him because of the Book of Mormon. It was a beautiful moment to hear her testimony of this priceless book.
Sociedad de Socorro
In relief society this week, we were put on the spot to teach. I am being dramatic, we had a lesson prepared from a few weeks ago we never ended up teaching and when the teacher didn't show yesterday, we were the perfect back ups. We talked about the Book of Mormon of course and in the hour we asked four questions and read one scripture, the Hermanas luckily did all the talking. We loved it. We just stood there as they all shared their testimonies of how the Book of Mormon has changed their lives. They all agreed that they would be lost without this inspired guide we have today.
Cesar
Cesar almost got baptized a year ago but a lot of things went wrong in his life all at once and he mever made it. An Hermana that served here a year ago contacted us saying she feels like we need to see him so we did. We had a huge miracle getting in the door but that's not the point I'm trying to make. We did get in to see him and we asked if he still had his Book of Mormon he hopped right up and was back within 20 seconds, Libro de Mormón in hand. It was a little more worn than the fresh copies we give out and it had bookmarks and sticky notes all over it. He sits back down and says something roughly like, "I am not going to lie, I haven't read it a ton but I have read from it. I keep it on my dresser with all my other important things. Sometimes I even take it with me when I leave. Not even to read it but just to look at it. A lot of times people forget their phones and have to return home for it. But if someone forgot this precious book, would they return home? I don't think they would but they should becuse it is even more important.
He then extends this great promise, "I promise that as you prayerfully study the Book of Mormon every day, you will make better decisions—every day. I promise that as you ponder what you study, the windows of heaven will open, and you will receive answers to your own questions and direction for your own life. I promise that as you daily immerse yourself in the Book of Mormon, you can be immunized against the evils of the day, even the gripping plague of pornography and other mind-numbing addictions."
I know this is a promise of a prophet of God. I also know that the Book of Mormon has the power to change your life if you let it. I am so thankful for my mission because it has helped me see how important the Book of Mormon is to me.
